Logins to antipasto.union.edu require the use of ssh.

January 2005 - We have discovered that older versions (3.0, 3.1) of  SHH secure shell that are found on some of the Union College machines will not allow logins to antipasto.  We have also found that the newer version (3.2) may not be set up correctly to allow logins to antipasto.

If you are not connecting to antipasto from your SSH follow these steps to setup a successful connection.  On your SSH click on the Help tab and select “About Secure Shell”.  This is an “About” screen from version 3.2.5.

If you have Version 3.0 or 3.1 you will need to update to a newer version.  (If you are using a Lab machine at Union please send email to labhelp@cs.union.edu and report the room and the machine number that has the older version.)

If you have the current 3.2 version then close the “About” screen and open “Edit  -> Settings”.  Along the left side select “Authentication”.  Note in the following picture the three options under “Authentication Methods”.  Use the “New (insert)” button (the dotted line rectangle) to select those methods that will make your version match the picture below.  The one that has been missing on machines in most cases is the “Keyboard Interactive” method.  Save the new settings and try to connect to antipasto.

If you still cannot get your SSH login to antipasto to connect please report the problem to labhelp@cs.union.edu.

As a workaround, assuming you have an account on idol.union.edu, you should be able to SSH to idol and from there you should be able to SSH to antipasto.
