STEINMETZ...BEGINNINGS
Carl August Rudolph Steinmetz, born April 9, 1865, was the son of Carl Heinrich
Steinmetz, an official with the state-owned railroad. Barred from strenous physical
activity by disablity, young Carl's pleasures were mainly intellectual ones, such as the
study of pure mathematics at the university in his home town of Breslau, Germany.
